ou disappoint me, Solis.” The smartly dressed executive turned in his chair. “I provide you with the best people and you lose them.”

“Lose is very different than taken, my Lord. Our servants were unprepared. Apparently Dark has been awakened by an Invicti. The princess Serena was with him.”

The executive took a deep breath; his mind calculating. “Then their clans grow stronger. And with them, Interra.”

“As do we, my Lord. Even now Admiral Vise weighs joining us to oppose the Sentinels. His vessels will allow us to take the portal and—”

“The battle for the Imperial throne will not take place on Ra, Solis; nor Orion. It will be won—here. On Aden.”

“The Imperium is vast, my Lord. Aden is but a tiny speck in the Universe. It is—”

“Do not, doubt me, Solis. There are events already in motion that even your well-seasoned mind cannot grasp at this point.”

“Yes, my Lord.”

“The nascent Invicti, Justin Pierce; he is still at large?”

“We have collected his family. They’re now at Tian Shan, as you requested.”

“Well then. At least something has gone right with the Seven. How soon will you have the Invicti?”

“Vancouver is a—difficult city, my Lord. The Triad clans are formidable. The Blood Dragons move like shadow; their empaths well hidden; they are everywhere. We have to proceed quite cautiously.”

“Understood. Retrieve the Invicti at all cost, Solis. Assign your best people. I will provide them with, a few tools that should greatly aid us in the task.”

“Indeed, my Lord. You are most gracious. Thank you.”

“And your brethren, Solis. How are they now that I have cured them of their geriatric afflictions?”

A much, much younger looking Solis smiled handsomely. “You might say they feel like kids again, my Lord.”
